For the past few years, I found myself reaching for a 6’0 yellow fish about 90% of the time. Whether the surf was waist-high or overhead, I’d try to make it work simply because of how easily it paddles and the effortless speed it generates. It became my go-to travel companion, though there were definitely days I found myself forcing it into waves it wasn’t suited for.

The Sun Dragon was born from that exact dilemma: the desire to maintain that iconic San-Diego-style fish DNA while unlocking a higher level of performance.

The Design

The Sun Dragon features a front half nearly identical to our Dogfish model, minus the beak with slightly extra flip in the nose. From the center point back, the template gradually tapers into a refined round tail paired with a quad-fin setup.

We designed this board to be a dedicated quad. A quad's speed and drive much more closely resemble the feel of a twin-fin, whereas a thruster introduces a completely different feel with the center fin.
